The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Strategy for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in BiH for the period 2021-2024 and the accompanying action plan, with the aim of further increasing the efficiency of all entities in this field and further improving security in BiH and the region.
The strategy and accompanying action plan were prepared by the Coordination Committee for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in cooperation with competent authorities at all levels of government and international partners involved in the implementation of strategic goals, and is based on United Nations standards, European Union and other international standards and best practices.
The four strategic objectives are aimed at improving and harmonizing the legal framework in the implementation of SALW legislation; reduction of abuse of illegal possession and trade of firearms and ammunition, management of SALW in the possession of the Armed Forces of BiH, and continued cooperation with international and regional organizations and civil society organizations in this area, the BiH Council of Ministers said in a press release today.
