Getting a child is always a big shock for every mother, but especially if the mother is underage or without parental care. With the aim to help these young women, the Children’s Home Mostar decided to expand its services and open the Center for Mother and Child soon.
“Children’s homes in BiH are in the process of transformation and our home will offer new services. One of these services will be the Center for Mother and Child, i.e. center for underage pregnant women and mothers who will have the opportunity to stay there for six months after giving birth to a baby. We will have a separate unit where they will have every kind of assistance on their disposal, in order to get some time to decide how they will continue with their lives, what will happen with the baby, as well as to make some other important decisions,” said Dalida Demirovic.
UNICEF provided the funds needed for the organization and equipping of the Center for Mother and Child within the Children’s Home Mostar.
“The Children’s Home provided one housing unit, UNICEF equipped it, and the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection of the HNC, as well as the City of Mostar put themselves on disposal for this project. The City of Mostar allocated 30, 000 BAM for the renovation of this housing unit. We can say that works on it are almost over,” stated Demirovic.
There is currently one girl in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton who could use this center, and statistics show that usually there is one or two girls per year.
