Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Mladen Ivanic met in Brussels with President of the Council of European Union, Donald Tusk, European Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, and the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.
Bilateral meetings with European officials took place within the extended summit of the European People’s Party, and the main topic was the political situation in BiH and the region as well as steps that BiH has to make on the European path.
Chairman Ivanic called on the President of the Council of EU Donald Tusk and other European officials to make Europe more present in BiH.
“Every kind of support that BiH needs on its path towards the EU is welcomed and it will contribute to the acceleration of its European path. We received a clear message that we should not miss this opportunity. There is enough support for BiH that we must not lose. Otherwise, we will not have the opportunity to get the status of a candidate in the next few years,” noted Ivanic.
He noted that it is our obligation to fulfill all the tasks stated in the Reform Agenda.
“Also, we are expected to send answers to all the questions from the Questionnaire of the European Commission, in order for the EU to decide whether we deserved candidate status by the end of this year or early next year. If we are late, we will miss this opportunity. Everything is in our hands, and I hope that there will be enough political consensus to fulfill all of our obligations,” said the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Mladen Ivanic.
The main message that was sent from the summit of the European People’s Party is that the European Union must be more present in BiH and that it is a mutual interest of both BiH and the EU.
