Brigadier General Jozsef Szpisjak is the newly appointed Chief of Staff of Forces of the European Union (EUFOR) in BiH, after the former Chief of Staff Brigadier General Albert Safar.
The ceremony was held at Camp Butmir in the presence of the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Anton Waldner, and numerous attendees and officials from BiH and the international community.
The new Chief of Staff noted that there is no change that is easy and there are still many barriers to overcome.
“Our mission is to contribute to the peaceful coexistence of different cultures within a country,” said Szpisjak.
Brigadier General Szpisjk expressed his gratitude to his predecessor and convinced the Commander of EUFOR on his full commitment and support.
Former Chief of Headquarters Brigadier General Albert Safar thanked the representatives of all institutions and organizations for their contribution to joint successes during the previous year. He also thanked the soldiers from the 19 countries that were participating in the mission to devotional service and wished his successor all the best.
Commander of EUFOR Major General Anton Waldner noted the key role of the Chief of Staff in creating a synergy in a multinational General Command of EUFOR, which is consisted of military and civilian personnel from other countries. He also noted the contribution of Brigadier General Safar to the success of the EUFOR mission and wished a warm welcome to his successor, Brigadier General Jozsef Szpisjak, who already performed this duty back in 2013.
