B&H will apply for membership in the European Union until the 31st of December this year, announced the Chairman of the Presidency of B&H Dragan Covic during yesterday’s meeting with Lubomir Zaoralek, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
Chairman Covic informed the Minister Zaoralek about the political-economic situation in B&H, as well as the activities that are taking place in order to fulfill the conditions to the European integration of our country. He also informed him about the necessary steps that will be undertaken before submitting the application for membership of B&H in the EU.
He emphasized that whatever progress is achieved on the European path of B&H is a result of the joint effort of all institutional actors in our country, and that this is a historic opportunity that we must not miss.
“We are delighted with the positive atmosphere and progress since the end of last year, which after years of frozen status quo, was initiated in B&H by the realization of the reform agenda and at this point we consider the agenda as an absolute priority in the country and we are ready to help,” said Minister Zaoralek.
He emphasized that the most intensive Czech support is focused on the efforts for integration of B&H into the EU, which chairman Covic is already informed about. He said the implementations of reforms in B&H must be as visible as possible, so that the investors from the Czech Republic can recognize B&H economy as ready for the new investments.
Minister Zaoralek informed the Chairman Covic about the work of the Visegrad Group, which is led by the Czech Republic, and establishment of the fund of Western Balkan countries, which is modeled after the International Visegrad Fund, that should be signed at the upcoming ministerial meeting of the Visegrad Group (which will be also attended by the Republic of Croatia, Slovenia, United Kingdom and Italy), and which will take place on the 13th of November in Prague.
The two officials agreed that political bilateral relations of B&H and the Czech Republic are very good and without any opened issues, and at the meeting they discussed, among other things, the current migration crisis in Europe and the situation in our region.
