The Sarajevo Open Center, Association for Culture and Art CRVENA, Organization of Rights for All, Helsinki Parliament of Citizens of Banja Luka, Center for for Empirical Study of Religion in B&H, TPO Foundation Sarajevo and the Women’s Forum of Bratunac, submitted the nomination of Besima Borić for the Anne Klein Award, which is awarded every year by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
The award was established in honor of Anne Klein, dedicated lawyer and politicians who was openly a lesbian and pioneer in the fight for women’s rights. The award is given to women who gave a significant contribution in making gender democracy a reality and in the fight against discrimination on gender basis or sexual orientation.
Besima Borić showed exceptional courage and achieved great success in her current political and public engagement, working on creating structural changes that enabled the inclusion of a larger number of women in the B&H political life and in the public sphere. She has proven many times that she is a genuine fighter for the rights of all people regardless of their origins, ethnic affiliation, gender or sexual orientation.
The name of the prize winners will be announced at the end of November, and the winners will be given a prize of 10.000 euros.
