The Ambassador of BiH to the Republic of Iceland, based in the Kingdom of Norway, Nedim Makarevic, solemnly presented his Letters of Credit to the President of the Iceland Guni Th. Johannesson in Reykjavik. In this way, he took over the duty of the non-resident extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of BiH in that country.
Johannsson welcomed the Ambassador of BiH and wished him success in his work, adding that Iceland wants to continue with the development of good relations with BiH as a strategically important country in the region of Western Balkans. He mentioned the program EEA in this regard, which, besides Iceland, is financed by Liechtenstein and Norway, and the possibility for BiH to take part in applications that refer to good practice, sharing knowledge and building of capacities on different bases.
Ambassador Makarevic thanked President Johannesson for his kind words, as well as for the unselfish help of Iceland during the floods in 2014.
He also noted that he will work on further improvement of bilateral relations and that one of the priorities in his work will be the improvement of economic cooperation between BiH and Iceland.
He informed the President of Iceland on the current political situation in BiH and all the efforts on accelerating the process of Euro-Atlantic integrations, with a special focus on the importance of full membership of our country in the EU and NATO.
Ambassador Makarevic thanked President Johannsson for all the support of Iceland to BiH, and especially for the support that this country is providing to BiH, as a NATO member, on its path towards the membership in the Alliance.
The President of Iceland, once again, as well as his predecessor, President Grimmson recalled the proposal for BiH to appoint an honorary consul in Reykjavik, with the aim of better bilateral co-operation.
