Ado Hasanovic, a young Bosnian director, won this weekend’s audience prize at the 8th Balkan Beyond Borders Film Festival held in Brussels for the short film “Pink Elephant”.
“Pink Elephant” is his graduation film in the class of Daniela Luchetti at the prestigious Italian Film Academy Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. With this accomplishment, Ado completed a specialization for film directing.
“I’m glad that, working on this film, I worked with actors Jasna Zalica, Amila Terzimehic, Izudina Bajrovic and Fabrici Colica, who contributed significantly to this project. What guided me through the film was my desire to talk about morality, family relationships and taboo within a family,” Hasanovic said.
“Pink Elephant” is set in Sarajevo, but was recorded in a studio in Rome.
It premiered at the festival in Brussels, where it won the audience award. In early November, “Pink Elephant” will travel to the Reggio Film Festival and later on the Mediterranean Short Film Festival in Sant’Antico.
The film talks about a city family from Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited by their young daughter from Italy, who studying abroad. Things start to change when the father notices a tattoo on the back of his daughter.
“I must also note that for the realization of the film I had great support from the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo and from MESS, without whose support this film could not be recorded,” said Ado.
