Increasing numbers of pensioners are increasingly putting pressure on budgets in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Economist Faruk Hadzic, who has been dealing with this issue for some time, announced that in the last year, the number of pension beneficiaries in Bosnia and Herzegovina has increased by more than 10,000.
In the period from August 2018 – August 2019, the number of users in the Federation of BiH increased by 7,256. In August 2018, there were 412,815 pensioners in FBiH, and 420,071 in August this year.
In Republika Srpska entity, for the period July 2018-July 2019, the number of users increased by 3,342. In July 2018, 261,616 pensioners received pensions in the RS, and 264,958 pensioners in July this year.
A total of 10,598 new retirees have been registered this year.
“It is a net increase. Thus, entry into the pension system was far higher, but when those who died are taken away, then we get this net increase,” Hadzic explained.
The economist calculated that the increase in the number of pensioners burdens pension funds with around 15 million BAM monthly.
Namely, in August 2018, the Federation of BiH allocated 165.3 million BAM monthly for pensions, and in August this year, 10.3 million BAM more, or 175.6 million BAM. On the other hand, Republika Srpska allocated 88.7 million BAM for pensions in July, and 93.1 million BAM in July this year, or 4.4 million BAM more, eKapija reports.
