On August 26th 1990, 180 comrades of average age of 27 years were killed in the explosion of a coal dust cloud.
Those 180 comrades left 365 children after them, and the coal exploitation from the Dobrnja Jug pit was forever terminated after August 26th 1990.
Smail Imamovic, who was near the exit from the pit, survived the biggest mining tragedy in B&H. He woke up from the clinical death five days later.
“I cannot continuously recall the tragic event, but the flashbacks are occurring every day, of course. I led one life until I was 25, and I am leading another life after the tragedy. It all left enormous consequences on my health”, said Smail Imamovic, who continued working in the Mine Mramor after the mining tragedy.
The Prime Minister of the FB&H Fadil Novalic said that efforts must be made in modernizing the mines in the FB&H additionally, and the representatives from the Union and the Management of the Mine Kreka agreed with such viewpoints.
As a reminder, the investigation of the biggest mining tragedy was led by the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office. The experts concluded that the main cause of the tragedy was the inflammation, and then also the explosion, of the coal dust caused by improper mining of the steel roof support.
