For the first time in BiH, students at three universities (Sarajevo, Banja Luka and “Džemal Bijedić” Mostar) are actively participating in the implementation of the project “Toyota Challenge” CO2 Friends”.
Students, organized in nine teams, will compete with one another in energy saving at faculties and will act as a kind of energy monitoring police on their campuses. The goal of the competition is for every team to achieve at least five percent of energy consumption for basic energy-efficiency measures.
The competition part of the project ended on 31 May with direct participation of more than one hundred students from nine faculties. The student teams followed, analyzed, advised and implemented measures that reduced energy consumption within the faculties and with that, reduced the carbon footprint of each institution. The preliminary results showed that the teams achieved huge savings, which reached over 20 percent. However, the final results and winners of the competition will be announced on 27 June.
The awards will be awarded for the first three teams, and according to the amount of electricity that was saved. The award for the winning team is 4.000 KM, second place will receive 1.500 KM, and third place will receive five tablet computers.
