The SDA-DF-HDZ coalition announced it would violate the law on gender equality and persist on the fact that not a single woman will hold a ministerial position in the government of Zenica-Doboj Canton.
“Think of a government in which the prime minister and all ministers were women. Think of a state government in which there was no Bosniak, Serb, or Croat. While you’re thinking of that hypothetical situation, do you think that it would create a sense of discomfort in many? What do you think, that the SDA would accept a government without any Bosniaks as the representative will of the electorate? That the HDZ would confirm that a government without a single Croat could fight for Croat rights? That the DF would complain when they were told that they could not have a single place in the government reserved for the Others?” said Dina Durakovic, member of the Nasa Stranka presidency.
“As the answers to the questions are more than certain, the SDA, DF and HDZ have the obligation to explain in which way women – as a social group that has the legal right to participate in all bodies in the ZDK government – can make decisions in a government in which there is not a single female minister. How will this government of ten men represent the will of half the electorate that comprises women? How will this ‘male’ government contribute to increasing women’s participation in political life?” added Durakovic.
“Assuming that the SDA, DF and HDZ do not have so many problems with elementary legal literacy, we believe that their statement that they will violate the law is an expression of the patriarchal arrangement of these parties and self-will, because the law on gender equality in its Article 20 very clearly prescribes equal representation of the genders in management, decision-making, and representation at all levels of the organization of government, including the legislative, executive, and judicial branches,” said Durakovic.
