NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen spoke with heads of both Houses of the BiH Parliament during his visit to Sarajevo.
Rasmussen met with the Chairman and Vice-Chair of the House of Peoples, Sulejman Tihić, Ognjen Tadić and Dragan Čović, as well as with the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Milorad Živković.
In an open meting, they thanked for the support NATO provides for the overall stabilization of BiH, and Rasmussen stressed the importance of participation of members of the BiH Armed Forces in peacekeeping missions under the auspices of NATO.
Rasmussen had the opportunity to become acquainted with the visions of the current fulfillment of conditions for obtaining the Action Plan (MAP) for BiH’s membership into the NATO alliance.
He expressed a particular interest in the process for the immovable military property, which is necessary for the country in the area of defense, and which should be registered as state property to be used by the Ministry of Defense.
He expressed the expectation that based on last year’s political agreement by key political actors in BiH, this process can be completed this year.
In this way, according to Rasmussen, BiH would show its ability to actively participate in Euro-Atlantic integration as one country.
Rasmussen also mentioned the positive experience of Eastern European countries who after entering NATO experienced remarkable progress not only in the security sphere, but also in the economic sphere. According to him, despite the different views on NATO integration, it should be in the interest of all citizens of BiH.
