The Director of the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data in BiH Petar Kovačević said that the Agency in the last four years has seen consistent progress in the protection of personal data for the citizens of BiH.
‘’We are pleased with the results of our work in the last year. Every day there is a greater need for the protection of personal data, and we are convinced that citizens have a greater awareness of this issue’’, said Kovačević.
When it comes to BiH’s obligations arising from the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, Kovačević says that there are two key things relating to the protection of personal data—the establishment of an independent supervisory authority, and the harmonization of BiH legislation with European and global standards in this area.
In that context, the Agency started an initiative to amend certain laws and systematic solutions, including changes to the Rules of Procedure of the work of the BiH Council of Ministers in a way that all regulations concerning the protection of personal data that go to the Council will be forwarded to the Agency for their opinion.
Otherwise, the effective protection of personal data is at the heart of the activities of the EU and the Council of Europe and a precondition for the flow of information.
BiH is a signatory to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals, with regard to the automatic processing of personal data of the Council of Europe, known as ‘’Convention 108”, which is the foundation of privacy and protection of personal data in BiH.
