A few years ago, a young married couple, Melisa and Rizalija Hasanspahić from Goražde, decided to live from their own farm, and they managed to do it very well. They have become the best-known producers of various types of sweets, chutney and other products that they are growing in their greenhouses.
The former US Ambassador of B&H, Patrick Moon, was the most frequent costumer of Melissa’s sweet mulberry and chutney, as well as many others gourmet lovers who enjoy the products that are prepared in a traditional way.
Melissa had never lived in the village, but when she met Rizalija, their love passed all obstacles. Today, they live in their home in the village Vladačići, 35 kilometers away from Goražde, at almost 850 meters above the sea level. Their daughter Amila, who finished 2nd grade of high school in Goražde, walks 4 kilometers to school every day. Neither she nor their son Enis, who finished 4th grade of primary school, finds it difficult to do their school work, and help their parents as well.
15 years ago, the Hasanspahić’s constructed their very first greenhouse and planted strawberries on one hectare of the land. Meanwhile, they created a true small paradise of domestic production.
“Back then, “Klas” was looking for cooperators for the production of jam and sweet strawberries and we worked with them for about two years. After that, the placement of products started to be a problem, and thanks to our friends who convinced us to do so, we exhibited our first products at the fair ‘Apple Days’ in Goražde in 2006. Since then, we started thinking to seriously get into this business, but the major issue was the sale of the products, “said Melissa.
Five years ago, Hasanspahić’s exhibited their products at the fair “Bee Fest” in Sarajevo for the first time. They presented themselves with the domestic traditional products, and sweet mulberry remains the customer favorite.
