“Costs were reduced by 4.252.947 BAM, and the largest share of the cost reduction was in further reducing the number of employees, thus 122 employees less in 2016. In the last two years, the number of employees was reduced by 316, while the amount of work in the transport of freight was increased in the same period, which implies an increase in labor productivity,” said the Director-General of the Railways of FBiH Enis Dzafic.
He added that the company transported 8,863,000 tons of goods in 2016, which is 26,000 tons more than in the year of 2015, which continued the trend of increasing with steady 20 % above the average of the EU: “We expected even better financial result, however, the steel market was hit by the recession last year, which is the reason why ArcelorMittal reduced the volume of transportation by around 700,000 tons. Moreover, passenger traffic is decreased, and the reason for that is a temporary suspension of line Capljina – Sarajevo due to the reconstruction of the railway.”
He said that they expect further increase in revenues from freight transportation this year.
“Railways of the FBiH are the generator of economic development and environmental sustainability, in which the reduction of CO2 is imperative, and guarantor of faster and more quality development of the transportation system, relieving of traffic and increase of traffic safety. Period of saving this company is behind us. We will use the next two years of the mandate of the Board to build one new and strong company. I would like to thank all of our employees on this significant business success,” said Dzafic.
