President of the National Assembly of RS, Nedeljko Cubrilovic, said that he is satisfied with the dynamics of works on the section of the highway Doboj-Prnjavor, adding that it should be open to traffic in the summer.
“I hope that this section will accelerate the economic development of the entire region and prove its importance, as it showed for the overall development of the region, both RS and BiH,” said Cubrilovic to reporters in Johovac, near Doboj, after a tour of the works together with the Minister of Transport and Communications of RS, Nedjo Trninic, and director of “Motorways of RS”, Dusan Topic.
Cubrilovic emphasized that this particular section is one of the most important in the motorway network, and expressed hope that the construction of the bridge on the Sava River will complete traffic network, and for Doboj to become one of the most important junction for highways, as it was a railway junction before the war.
“We have Corridor 5C, route to the north, connections with Budapest and route Doboj-Banja Luka to Zagreb and Western Europe, which will contribute to faster economic growth and speed up some processes in the region,” said Cubrilovic.
Trninic stated that 70% of the section is coated with final layer of asphalt and that protective and safety fences and sound barriers are getting set. He emphasized that the original deadline for completion in May was moved due to landslides and rain, but that costs will not “disturb the ultimate price.”
Topic said that the finishing works are currently taking place and that all provided deadlines of the first phase of the highway Banja Luka-Doboj will be respected.
