The building of the Olympic Museum of Sarajevo could be renovated and opened to the public by February 2018, on the day of the opening of the European Youth Olympics.
“We have started preparations for the third phase of the reconstruction of the building of Olympic Museum that is placed in Petrarkija’s Street. If everything goes according to our plans, the Museum will be opened in its old building by February 2018,” confirmed the director of the Olympic Museum, Edin Numankadic.
So far, two phases of the reconstruction of the building of the Museum were conducted, the interior, roof, and windows were renovated, and the Museum needs around a million BAM for the remaining third phase of the reconstruction.
“The City of Sarajevo will donate a total of 100,000 BAM for the reconstruction, the Canton has promised 400,000 BAM, and the International Olympic Committee will provide a half of the funds as well,” stated director Numankadic.
“In the third stage of the reconstruction is planned the interior and exterior decoration of the building. The funds donated by the City of Sarajevo will be operational on the account of the Olympic Museum very soon,” as confirmed by Numankadic. These funds will be donated due to the wish of the City of Sarajevo to put all objects of cultural and historical importance into operation.
“The basic concept of the new Olympic Museum is to present the spirit of Olympics, real Olympic values, creativity, youth and other positive effects of this event through sports and art. When it comes to the aspect of sports, in the Museum were presented the preparation, organization and realization of the XIV Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, and through the aspect of art was presented the Map of world graphics Art and Sport with works by artists such as Henry Moore, Michelangelo Pistoletto, as well as collections of contemporary BH artists, including the works of Berber, Kucanski, Zaimovic and many others,” as stated on the webpage of the Museum.
