“For the further development of tourism this year, the Government of Canton Sarajevo’s most important project is the installment of a new ski lift. Following yesterday’s session of the Parliament whereby amendments to the KS budget including amendments to the Law on the Execution of the KS budget for the year were adopted, our goal is to announce an international tender in June so that we can build a new ski lift on Bjelašnica before the winter season”, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Elmedin Konaković told Sigmund Nemeti, a representative of the Austrian Embassy in BiH.
The ski lift with 6 chairlifts will operate over a distance of 2000 metres, covering a range of around 600 metres in altitude, and will have capacity to transport 2000 people per hour. It is anticipated that the lift will be built in accordance with the latest technology for eco-friendly design ensuring maximum safety to users. The aesthetic blending of the lift with the natural environment of the Olympic mountains would also be considered; this would satisfy all European environmental standards.
Nemeti was interested in all the details of this project, especially the details of the snowmaking system, and how to provide the water for this purpose.
Economy Minister Muharem Šabić who attended the meeting, said that the project “Snowmaking Bjelašnića” is not planned for this year’s budget, but there is a Government commitment to implement it in the following year when they will hopefully find the necessary funds through loans or contacts with potential investors.
“We know that for the snowmaking system it is essential to source water; right now we’re working with the Trnovo Municipality to prepare a project that would provide the necessary amount of water from Treskavica,” said Šabić.
