Jasmin Bučo, acting director of the Public Enterprise Motorways of the FB&H, said that this enterprise has drained all credit resources and that the only solution is to increase excise taxes on fuel.
Bučo explained that Motorways of the FB&H are in a lot more difficult situation than three or four years ago, because of the completion of the investment cycle which resulted in the construction of 49 kilometers of highway.
The highway construction continues in the south of B&H, at the section from Međugorje towards Počitelj and further towards Mostar, and it is also being worked on the Zenica bypass.
The section Konjic-Mostar is exceptionally demanding and there is no possibility of financing it by the means of classic indebtedness with international financial institutions. However, the Motorways of the FB&H proposed a new route of this section which would cost around 400 million EUR instead of the intended billion EUR.
Bučo explained that the section would follow the valley of Bijela and the main facility would be the tunnel through Prenj Mountain, 10 kilometers in length. The Government of FB&H generally accepted this proposal and adopted the preliminary design, while the Motorways of the FB&H conducted other necessary studies as well.
With this section completed, the ride from Konjic to Mostar would last for 15 minutes, instead of an hour.
This section might be completed by 2020, but the main prerequisite is the increase of excise taxes on fuel.
