We have consistently said that dialogue between the two sides was necessary to find a local solution and we were encouraged to see dialogue last week. Unfortunately, as is clearly seen from their statements in recent days, leaders from both sides continue to place unrealistic demands, according to a joint statement by the European Union Delegation and the EU Special Representative in BiH and the Embassy of the US in BiH “on the efforts to get out of the dead end in which the FBiH currently finds itself.”
Ambassador Patrick Moon and Ambassador Peter Sorensen announced that the repeated claims of the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH and the Croatian Democratic Union 1990 to remove the President of the Federation Živko Budimir does not contribute to building the confidence that is necessary in order to achieve a positive solution.
As for President Budimir, it is added that it is unrealistic to demand the adoption of certain laws or to place a veto vote on who will serve as Ministers in the government.
“Both sides will need to compromise. We believe the citizens will be best served by a government and parliament of the Federation capable of taking decisions to address the economic and social problems of the Federation, rather than seeking or holding on to power simply to ensure positions for supporters, friends or family. Continued stalemate serves no one. We now need to see an agreement that truly serves the best interests of the citizens of the Federation.”
Moon and Sorensen point out that no one has benefited from this “stalemate” that continues.
“Now we have to see an agreement that truly serves the interests of the citizens of the FBiH”, announced Moon and Sorensen.
