A modern Real-Time PCR device for molecular detection and gene characterization has been installed at the Clinical University Center Sarajevo (KCUS).
Main advantages of this method are the speed, specificity and ability to detect a very small number of copies of a certain microorganism. This is the only device of this type in our country, and it has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other global agencies. It will be used for the needs of testing on the Clinical Microbiology and Clinical Pathology, Cytology and Human Genetics, as announced from the KCUS.
The Head of Clinical Microbiology, Amela Dedeic – Ljubovic, noted that this procurement will largely improve the research and diagnostic procedures in the KCUS.
The device, among other things, will enable early detection of certain agents such as HPV infection.
The Head of Clinical Pathology, Cytology and Human Genetics, Ph.D. Nurija Bilalovic, noted that this device can detect some important mutations in malignant diseases such as melanoma, colon cancer and lung cancer.
The Director of Diagnostic Disciplines, Prof. Dr. Sandra Vegar – Zubovic, noted that modern oncology is unimaginable without this type of tests, which help oncologists in the process of selecting the right medication and treatment strategies.
The Director General of KCUS, Sebija Izetbegovic, noted that this institution introduced a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of patients, which is giving the best results.
