Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektic and representative of NATO Laurence Mayer-Mineman announced a military rescue exercise, or the first response to natural disasters, which will take place in the vicinity of Tuzla in September 2017.
“We are strengthening the partnership between BiH and NATO and thus we have a high degree of cooperation achieved. We are using NATO’s capacities even in the case of the practice of rescue in cases of natural disasters. We want to check how well we are trained and how we would act in cases of large-scale natural disasters when people are in danger, as well as properties of our citizens and the state,” said Mektic.
According to Minister Mektic, the benefit of this exercise is to achieve our own sustainability in order to get rid of the expectations for other people’s help.
The Chief of NATO section for the civil planning in emergency situations Laurence Mayer-Mineman agreed with Mektic that this exercise will be very beneficial for BiH.
“This exercise will be very important. Unfortunately, this country is likely to experience bad weather conditions. In the year of 2014, more than 40 countries, including NATO countries, helped BiH,” noted Mayer-Mineman.
Both military and civilian units from BiH and several other countries will participate in the exercise. International organizations, including the United Nations and non-governmental organizations, will be present as well.
