At the conference held on the occasion of the upcoming Day of the Armed Forces of BiH, Minister Pendes expressed her optimism about the possibility of the recent activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) of BiH in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
She particularly noted the increased participation of AF BiH in international peacekeeping missions, including Afghanistan, Mali, Congo and Central African Republic, as well as the assistance for civilian structures of BiH in cases of natural disasters, regardless of unfavourable financial aspects.
“And today, twelve years after their establishment, we can say that the AF BiH are one of the best parts of our society, and that the reform of defense is one of the most successful reforms implemented in BiH,” stated Minister Pendes.
Talking about Euro-Atlantic integrations as a strategic commitment, Minister Pendes noted that 30 of required 63 prospective military locations were registered, which would fulfill the Tallinn condition for activation of the MAP.
She also added that there are conditions for registration of three additional military locations by the end of the year. At the beginning of the next month, the main support for the activation of MAP should be received in the Main Headquarters of NATO, and the activation itself should follow in the upcoming months.
Besides training and military exercises, General Jelec also noted the continued engagement of AF BiH in providing assistance to local communities in the activities of firefighting, demining, medical evacuations by the air, search and rescue operations, as well as conducting engineering works in local communities.
