Delegations of the Ministry of Defense of Ireland, led by Minister Paul Kehoe, paid a visit to the Ministry of Defense of BiH on July 11, 2018. Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH for Politics and Plans, Sead Jusic, was the host of the meeting with the delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH.
Deputy Minister of Defense Jusic expressed his gratitude to the delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ireland on the visit and participation of their soldiers in the EUFOR’s mission ALTHEA in BiH, which makes great contributes to the process of building capacities of the Armed Forces of BiH.
Representatives of Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces introduced the delegation of the Republic of Ireland on the current state of BiH on its path towards Euro-Atlantic integrations. They also discussed regional cooperation, the participation of the Armed Forces of BiH in peacekeeping missions, activities in regard to fulfilment of the conditions for the activation of the Membership Action Plan for NATO (MAP), the security situation in BiH, as well as the regional migration crisis.
Minister of Defense of Ireland Kehoe made a proposal of establishing bilateral co-operation in the field of defense of the two countries and he praised and supported the activities conducted by the Armed Forces of BiH.
Both sides expressed readiness at the end of the meeting to start activities on establishing bilateral military co-operation between the two countries.
Besides Minister Kehoe, there were also other members of the delegation from the Ministry of Defense of Ireland, and they include the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Ireland, Admiral Mark Mellett, non-resident ambassador of Ireland to BiH, Myles Geiran, and Secretary General of Ministry of Defense of Ireland, Maurice Quinn.
