Miloš Perišić, a beekeeper from Derventa near Milići, engaged into an unusual production. In addition to 180 ordinary bee colonies, he also owns 430 so-called “inseminators” where he grows queen bees for establishment of bee colonies.
The idea for this business was born after Miloš attended one seminar where he saw the principles of this production.
“During the seminar, there was one example from Slovenia. I took photos, examined them in detail and now I have the same system as them,” Miloš said.
During the entire year there is something to be done with the queen cells, but he loves this kind of production so much that even all those obligations do not seem difficult to handle.
Miloš revealed that demands for queen bees on the market are high and that he hardly manages to meet all of them.
“I have a market. There is this man from Slovenia who takes my queen bees. I also have one customer from Sarajevo who takes more than 1.000 queen bees. I am just waiting for a man from Mostar to come and take over the last fifty queen bees I have now. The market exists, I can sell everything I produce,” Miloš said with satisfaction.
Miloš added that initial investments are very high, but that investment pays off already after the first season.
This hard-working retiree shows all agricultural producers how great results can be achieved with a different approach to production. Miloš says that a lot of work and effort is necessary, but that is not enough. A man must love what he does. Miloš said that he could not imagine his day without bees. Apart from the fact that they generate a decent income, they complement his life and fill his free time.
