Yesterday in Sarajevo, members of the Green Berets laid flowers at Drvenija Bridge, and paid their respects to fallen comrades and heroes of the defense of the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A representative of the Green Berets Old Town, Vahid Alić, said that the 3rd of May, 1992, is the date when Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina was successfully defended.
Discussing the events of the “1992 Yugoslav People’s Army column incident” that occurred on the former Dobrovoljačka Street, Alić said that the members of the JNA (Yugoslav People’s Army) had enough time and space to leave Sarajevo.
On this day in 1992, an exchange was planned to occur between the JNA and ARBiH. The ARBiH was to exchange captured army units, and the JNA would in turn hand over captured B&H delegates and President Alija Izetbegović. However, the JNA did not respect the agreement for soldiers to come unarmed, and arrived in transports in full battle gear. During the convoy passage through Dobrovoljačka Street, six JNA soldiers were killed as a result of a firefight due to the tensions caused by the JNA not keeping its end of the deal.
The expected arrival of the delegation of RS was around 10.30 a.m., which consisted of a quiet walk and the laying of flowers to pay tribute to the fallen members of the JNA.
