At the session of the Main Board of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), it has been decided that the candidates for the position of the President of the Party at the Congress that will be held on 26 May will be Bakir Izetbegović, the current Vice President of SDA, Šemsudin Mehmedovic and Irfan Ajanović.
Izetbegović told reporters after the confirmation of the candidacy at the Main Board meeting that he himself has supported the candidacy of the other two members of the Party to comply with the Statute, adding that the Party aims to have a democratic struggle among several candidates.
When it comes to priorities if elected president of SDA, Izetbegović said that they will be based on documents to be adopted by Congress, but to him personally it will be important to continue to work on the reconciliation process in the Balkans and in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Reconciliation will contribute to a better atmosphere in the country, attract investment and allow work on reforms that could strongly push BiH forward,” explained Izetbegović.
His intention is, therefore, to continue working on reconciliation between Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats and others who live in this country.
Ajanović after the session of the main board said that he was honored to be a candidate for president of SDA, especially since he was one of the founders of the party and because he is in a position to be on the list with the prime candidate.
The main board supported my candidacy, said Ajanović, noting that the main board was up to the task because it has honored the statutory provision which requires that the there should be more than one candidate at the congres.
President of the SDA Main Board Halid Genjac confirmed to the press that all candidates for presidents received the support of the party, adding that the candidates for deputy president are Adil Osmanović and Mihnet Okić.
The President and Vice President shall be elected by secret ballot. The vice-president of the Party will be elected from the extensive list that contains 21 names and president of the party after being elected will declare which candidates to support, and it must be at least eight of them,” explained Genjac.
