Candidate of the Social Democratic Union (SDU) Ivo Komšić was elected yesterday in the continuation of the constitutive session of the City Council of Sarajevo as the mayor of the capital city of BiH.
The majority of those present voted for him, 15 councilors, and 7 were against and 5 abstained from voting.
Other candidates for the Mayor of Sarajevo were Igor Kamočaji from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 12 votes, 12 votes against and 3 abstentions.
The Vice-Mayor is Aljoša Čampara for the Bosniak people and Ranko Čović for the Serbian people (in accordance with the principle of national representation, given that the Mayor was chosen from the Croatian people).
Aljoša Čampara received 15 votes and 11 against, while Ranko Čović received 15 votes, 6 against and 5 abstentions.
All the newly-elected city leaders took a solemn oath and signed a statement. After six months has passed since the local elections in Sarajevo, this has completed the executive and legislative power in the new Parliament.
The newly-elected Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić noted the importance of Sarajevo as the capital city of BIH, and said that the focus of his mandate would be on redesigning the model of the City Council, achieving a better political climate, eliminating inter-party tensions, and strengthening the unity of work on the city integration, restoring competence and better conditions for the life of the citizens of Sarajevo.
“We cannot invest, but we can bring investors’’, said Komšić, with the belief that he will be part of the solution rather than making further complications, and that he would cooperation not only with the four city municipalities, but in all municipalities in Canton Sarajevo.
