Italy to allocate Half a Million Euros for Migrants Crisis in Bosnia

Italy will allocate 500,000 euros to resolve the issue of the migrant crisis, the Italian Embassy in BiH announced. The Embassy states that Italy is closely monitoring the situation in BiH after the closure of the “Lipa” camp, and points out that the humanitarian situation of migrants and asylum seekers who are currently without accommodation and without the possibility of meeting basic needs is worrying.

“To this end, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has decided to allocate 500,000 euros to the Red Cross, which operates on the ground, and has asked the European Commission to take measures to alleviate the suffering of these people,” the statement added.

Italy reportedly calls on the BiH authorities to urgently find a solution that can provide the necessary assistance to migrants and asylum seekers, especially given the current climate and difficulties associated with the Covid pandemic.

A larger group of migrants who stayed at the “Lipa” camp spent last night in buses waiting to be moved to a new location. BiH Security Minister Selmo Cikotic said that the Council of Ministers would adopt conclusions on the management of the migrant crisis at today’s extraordinary session, and that he believed that earlier decisions would be confirmed, especially the one related to the “Bira” camp as the best accommodation.
