Intensive works are being done in National and University Library of BiH (Vijećnica), and with it the fourth and the last phase of the rehabilitation of this jewel of architecture built in pseudo-Moorish style, whose construction was done in April 1896, reports klix.ba
Coordinator of the project of rehabilitation Vildana Jakić said to FENA that the works are being done by ‘Unigradnja’ company, and it is finance by the EU from IPA funds worth 5 million EUR. She noted that the works are being realized with scheduled dynamics.
Main architect of the project Muhamed Hamidović said to FENA that all interior works are being done, including installations that existed and new ones, such as air condition, and furniture should come soon as well.
Hamidović said that a part of the hall has already been finished the most current work is on the large number of stone stairs. Also, representative stairs that lead from the central hall to gallery where reading rooms and main book archives were held are in the focus of rehabilitation.
The main architect noted that it is a big project and that all works are under constant supervision of representatives of the EU that insist on good quality.
Depending on the phase, between 10 and 25 people work on the National and University Library of BiH while during the construction season there will be around 50 workers.
In earlier phases, windows were rehabilitated, and doors are being built as well, and 150 of them is already done, they will be installed when the carpet is finished.
Hamidović said that next month the works will intensify because of the warmer weather. The entire interior will be in its original form, and the works will be finished in April 2014.
