Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik, met in Brussels Monday, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, discussing the prospects of BiH candidacy status in the EU.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Dodik said, “all the political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina are committed to bringing the country closer to the European Union.” “Of course we have a specific system of decision making in BiH which slows down certain activities,” he noted.
Dodik added, “we believe that the current European Commission will continue working and will end up adopting opinion that will lead the opinion by EU member states to grant BiH the states of candidate country.”
For his part, Hahn said in a joint conference “we are very much committed to deliver on the opinion but it is also important to understand that our opinion is the basis for the final opinion for our member states.”
EU member states will also take into account the general political situation and atmosphere in BiH, he added.
