Football Club Sarajevo yesterday celebrated its 71st birthday. On today, October 24, 1946, in the large hall of the Gymnasium in Sarajevo, Udarnik and Radnik merged to create the new association, which was officially called “Torpedo”.
Soon after, “Torpedo” changed its name to Sarajevo, which remained unchanged to this day.
As part of the football league of the former Yugoslavia, Sarajevo won the championship twice, making the maroon and white club the most successful club in Bosnia and Herzegovina at that time. Football Club Sarajevo won the championship titles of Bosnia and Herzegovina a total of three times and five trophies of the Cup of our country. In addition to national competitions, FC Sarajevo has recorded significant successes on the international scene during its successful history.
Husref Musemic, the head of the professional club of the Football Club Sarajevo, wished his beloved club a happy birthday, remembering his most beautiful moments in the Maroon jersey.
“There were really many moments in FC Sarajevo for me, of which I can point out several. I had the honor and opportunity to win the Yugoslav title in the Sarajevo jersey as a player, and later as a coach I won the title of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It remains a major success, but there have been other events, matches … There were also those in which I did not play or which I did not coach and which I remember. Sarajevo – Hamburg, Sarajevo – Anderlecht, these were top-notch games. Of course, in addition to winning the title as a coach, there are also European matches that cannot be forgotten. I hope with all my heart Sarajevo I will hhave a bright future and I would like to wish Sarajevo Football Club a happy 71st birthday,” Musemic said for the official club page.
