“War Diaries – Testimonies and Writings about Life” is the title of the exhibition opened yesterday at the Memorial Complex “Tunnel D-B” in Sarajevo.
The exhibition shows the significance and value of publications printed in Sarajevo under siege and those printed after the war, and which treat the war testimonies about everyday life.
The exhibition was implemented by the Museum of Literature and Theatre Art of BiH, in cooperation with the Memorial Complex “Tunnel D-B”.
The idea of the project is to gather testimonies of ordinary citizens from the time of the siege of Sarajevo, which would be displayed in the Museum.
“The exhibition, which celebrates life and testimony, presented the contribution of the previously published war diaries to the cultural history of BiH. The last part of the exhibition, under the title ‘This nation will live’, features a small part of the war diaries of citizens gathered in the campaign launched by our Museum and the Memorial Complex ‘Tunnel D-B’. A surprisingly great number of people responded to the campaign and their contribution to this exhibition and the formation of the museum collection ‘War Diaries’ is immeasurable,” said the Director of the Museum, Šejla Šehabović.
Šehabović said that the number of collected diaries cannot be discussed yet because it is increasing every day. She highlighted that the diaries are stored in the depot of the Museum, where they are waiting to be digitalized and academically and artistically processed.
“I must wholeheartedly thank all those who responded to this campaign, and invite them to spread this idea. Now we have citizens from all parts of BiH contacting us, this project is growing unexpectedly. I strongly believe that the BiH citizens decided to become authors of their country’s history,” said Šehabović.
The exhibition will be opened until May 25.
