The European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was in the focus of the meeting between the Chairman of Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdic and the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov here on Friday afternoon.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that there are true Bulgaria’s efforts to catalyze the European integration of the Western Balkans where Borissov stressed that there is a realistic chance on the one hand, and on the other, that Balkan’s authorities should not be overly optimistic.
“It is good to keep the fate of the Western Balkans in our hands. The Western Balkans cannot exist without Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, but also cannot do without Albania and BiH,”Borissov explained.
Special emphasis during the meeting was put on the Bulgaria’s taking over the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the period from July 1-Dec.31 2018, when the authorities of BiH expect to gain the candidate status.
For his part, Borissov pointed out that the idea of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans will remain the focus of the European institutions.
“The idea of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans will remain the focus of the European institutions. This is precisely the key factor for further activities on the road to European integration of BiH,”Zvizdic added.
Bulgaria is the first country to acknowledge the independence of BiH in 1992 and supports the country in all activities, especially the ones related to the EU integration.
