From the Delegation of the European Union to BiH was confirmed that the European Union is not actively considering the introduction of sanctions to the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
Recently, regional media were speculating that the EU is considering to introduce sanctions to the President of Republika Srpska, the entity in BiH, which include the ban on traveling to countries of the EU, blocking bank accounts and banning operations in the EU member states.
They also noted that those who are advocating these measures of taking a “more strict” attitude towards Dodik in the EU are representatives of Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK, and that the main reason for this is the fail of BiH to access the Transport Community of Southeast Europe due to the blockade from the RS.
The Delegation of the European Union to BiH confirmed that no restrictive measures are being actively considered and that the situation remains the same as it was noted at the beginning of this year in the Decision 2017/607.
They noted that the restrictive measures mentioned in the Decision represent a framework that allows quick implementation of measures against certain individuals if the Council finds it necessary.
“It is true that Germany is concerned about the increased nationalist rhetoric in the territory of BiH as well as the violations of the Dayton Peace Agreement. We are very sorry to see that BH politicians are encouraging ethnic conflicts instead of focusing on improvement of everyday life, opening new workplaces and better living conditions in BiH,” as stated from the Embassy of Germany to BiH.
They noted that it is necessary for BH politicians to take responsibility for their citizens and to deal with socio-economic reforms, and thus show a serious intention to bring BiH closer to the EU.
