Deputy mayor of Sarajevo, doctor Ranko Čović and the mayor’s assistant for local self-government Dragana Solaković, hosted yesterday in the City Hall around 30 children, representatives of the children’s groups of network of the NGOs „Snažniji glas za djecu“ („Stronger voice for children“) from all over B&H and welcomed them on behalf of the town of Sarajevo.
The children had a chance to visit this beautiful symbol of Sarajevo while the deputy mayor spoke to them shortly at the hall of the City Council: „I want you to take with you nice memories from Sarajevo, memories of a nice visit and friendship. It’s was a great pleasure for me to work last year with the NGO „Naša djeca“ and to participate at the work of Children’s Parliament in Vogošća.“ I truly hope the town of Sarajevo will, along with the town municipalities, complete the action plan for the project „Town-municipality made for children“.
The mayor’s assistant Dragana Solaković said that the town of Sarajevo started to implement this project together with four municipalities, since 2008.
This year, it’s been 25 years since signing of the Convention on children’s rights. The director of the NGO „Naša djeca“ Sarajevo, Zehra Salman, said that these children are learning about children’s rights and working on the first children’s report on children’s rights in B&H to be sent to the UN Committee for children’s rights in Geneva, along with the alternative report made by the NGOs being part of the network of NGOs.
