Tatjana Đekanović was the first of the BiH representatives to perform at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She won the 35th place in air rifle shooting at 10 meters, winning 410.8 points.
This is a very good result for this 19-year-old competitor. Fifty-one competitors performed in the qualifications for the finale and eight of them passed to the next round. Neven Rašić, coach of Tatjana Đekanović, is satisfied with success of the BiH shooter because Đekanović arrived at the competition as the 110th shooter in the world and winning 35th place in the Olympics at the age of 19 is not a small feat.
“We can say we are satisfied with success because she was 110th on the rankings and 51 best competitors came here. Tatjana won the 35th place. In terms of result, she could have achieved more. However, this is a great experience for Tatjana because we do not want to stay on one Olympics, since she is only nineteen. I had an opportunity to talk to other coaches as well, who said that it is a great result when such a young shooter manages to win 410 points. Therefore, in the next Olympics we can achieve a much better results,” Rađić said.
Tatjana, however, is not satisfied because she is sure she could have done better. She is still under impression after performing at the Olympics. Despite that, Tatjana is self-confident when she announces great results in the future.
“I am still under impression after performing. Honestly, I am not that satisfied with the placement and result because during the trainings I had great shots. Perhaps that had some influence on my mental state. Perhaps the atmosphere had an impact on be because the Chinese shooter performed before me and she won the first place, there were many photographers and I am inexperienced in this, but the result is not a catastrophe. Whoever knows something about junior competitions knows that this result is enough for the finals. I still have a lot to do. I am happy to participate in the Olympics at the age of 19 and I want to announce many great results in the future. This is just the beginning. I am still confused, all shooters were under pressure because the favorites did not even qualify for the finals, but that is all sport,” Đekanović said.
