The beginning of the construction of the highway Čapljina-Neum should begin by the end of this year. According to the Minister of Transport and Communications of the FBIH Enver Bijedić, this will entail the construction of a new road, and not the reconstruction of an existing one, according to Radio Sarajevo.
“We are preparing another document that will be sent to the FBIH government. The document would allow the public company “Ceste Federacije” further indebtedness.
From 1 July, controls on the border crossings for Croatia will be tightened, and citizens of Neum, will be apparently cut off from their own country. The construction of this road, according to Bijedić, would allow access to the most important touristic city.
“Citizens of BiH and its goods do not have to cross the border with Croatia two times in order to come to Neum. In this way, they would be ensured direct transport of goods and ties to the sea, with an important tourist destination of Neum. When this is done, it would not be necessary to go through Croatia and it would speed up the time to arrive to the sea’’, said Bijedić.
Bijedić pointed out that it would not be long until the beginning of the construction of the road. As soon as the FBiH government gives the approval of credit indebtedness, construction would start.
“We are doing this project in cooperation with the FBIH Ministry of Finance and we hope that we will receive the approval for this initiative. After that, we can enter indebtedness and the realization of the project. I hope that until the end of the year we could begin with construction’’, added Bijedić.
The FBIH Minister of Finance Ante Krajina confirmed this information to “Avaz.ba”, and said that the construction of this road is a priority and that it would help the citizens of BiH.
“All these stories about the accession of Croatia to the EU is actual now, and is in the stage when the construction of this road is a priority. It would be very good for BiH citizens, especially for those who live in Neum, to begin with construction as soon as possible’’, said Krajina.
