Serbia will suggest to the Chinese airline Hainan Airlines to introduce flights Belgrade from Beijing starting from next year and then to Sarajevo.
The company currently maintains a connection between Belgrade and Beijing through Prague, but apart from being not direct, the line is temporary. The mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, said that he would speak with representatives of Hainan and propose an alternate route.
“Since Serbia and BiH have more and more tourists from China each year, our goal is to have a joint offer in order to attract even more visitors from China. That is why I proposed the flight from Beijing to Belgrade and then to Sarajevo, and we will talk about this with to our Chinese friends,” Mali said.
The announcement came after the meeting of Mali with the mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka. On the other hand, Hainan Airlines recently announced that there are no planned expansions in Central and Eastern Europe. When it comes to flights to Belgrade, it was announced that in the spring, if there is enough interest, it will introduce a regular line.
“We will adapt to market demands. We will gauge whether we should introduce more flights or even regular flights before the summer season,” Hainan announced.
On the introduction of the line from Beijing to Sarajevo, Skaka recently talked with Beijing’s mayor Chen Jining, who expressed interest.
Bosnia and Herzegovina joined Serbia and Montenegro in a regional tourism initiative aimed at attracting Chinese tourists. Tourists who are currently coming to Belgrade usually continue their journey to Montenegro. It is expected that BiH will become the third destination of the regional tour and offer the package “Paths of Walter” modeled after the movie “Walter Defends Sarajevo”, which is very popular in China.
