Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdic stated that the most important thing at the moment is to preserve the peace and stability in BiH.
“We have to praise our intelligence, security and other agencies that managed to preserve this stability. There is no incident, or any kind of terrorist act on the territory of BiH, and the trend of going to foreign battle fields was also stopped. Now, we are a respected partner in the global coalition, which has been repeatedly noted at the Security Conference in Munich as well,” noted Zvizdic.
He also added that it is important for the inner ambience to stay calm.
“I would like to draw a special attention to the very positive statements made by the President of the European Commission during the handing over ceremony of answers to the Questionnaire and sometimes it seems that EC and representatives of EU understand better the complexity of our system and the procedures that we had to implement in order to fulfil this important task. The Questionnaire represents the most comprehensive and complex phase of our EU accession process.
The Questionnaire sent a new positive signal on the topic of BiH and the fulfilment of its obligations for sure. Whether we are doing this in certain deadlines is a different question. We would all want for certain activities to be realized much faster, but BiH is a really specific country.”
Additional questions will follow in the period of next 3 to 5 months. Serbia, Montenegro and Albania received between 500 and 600 new questions on average, and we will probably need a few months to respond to them. Therefore, I believe that the end of this year would be the optimal date for BiH to respond to the additional questions as well and the Commission will be able to prepare an opinion on BiH then.
We solved the last condition for obtaining the candidate status with the questionnaire. Considering the current political situation, it is not certain whether something special will appear, i.e. the Sejdic-Finci verdict or the Election Law, and it is difficult to predict it now because there are no clear indications.
“The EBRD expressed their readiness to invest additional 700 million EUR exclusively for the continuation of the construction of Corridor 5C. This motorway will include six sections, four in the FBiH and two in the territory of the RS, which are ready for the selection of contractors. The set of excise laws released a large amount of funds, more than 800 million EUR, and the EBRD is willing to invest, including the grant funds for BIH.
