While the exhibition “Bread of Charity” is still displayed in Loreto, Italy, in the cathedral “Santuario della Santa Casa” – the most sacred place for Christians apart from the Church of Saint Peter in Rome – the Bosnian Michelangelo, one of the greatest artists of the present times, Safet Zec, is preparing for a new artistic journey at which he will present his works to the French audience in Lille on October 11, after 15 years. His exhibition “Painting and Life” will be opened in the chapel of the medieval building of the museum “Hospice Comtesse”, and this will be the first time he shows new artworks. Catalogue that follows the exhibition was made by his daughter Hana, and the exhibition is organized by Hana and Safet’s wife Ivanka and son Gorčin, together with Safet.
“We sail as a family. We are alone; whoever comes is welcome. Bosnia is always there, in our hearts and I say that with dignity. In Lille we will have a continuation of the exhibition I had there in 2001. Logically, I will show something I created after that time, all my cycles that came afterwards. For the first time, I will present one new cycle which refers to my obsession with the character “Victory”, the most valuable sculpture of mankind, found on an island in Greece. As a little boy, I was fascinated – how can someone make something that touches sensibility, erotic, sculpture, from stone? For the first time I will also present a large crucifixion, which will be displayed in the chapel of that museum,” Zec revealed.
After Lille, Zec is traveling to Rome, where he will present works from Loreto in the Church of San Salvatore Lauro.
“Exhibitions in Rome and Loreto are related in terms of mercy. Many events were dedicated to that human state, that need, and you see all the tragedies we testify to; there are many hungry people, sick people, and there are also refugees that are considered a burning issue. Well, stop the wars and you will no longer have those waves of refugees,” Zec stated.
Zec said that an invitation for the exhibition was also sent to Pope Francis and that his arrival is expected, if the date fits the Pope’s schedule.
