The BiH Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Trišić-Babić met in Brussels with the Assistant NATO Secretary for Political Affairs and Security Policy (PASP) Dirk Bregelman.
They spoke of the current status of NATO integration in BiH, with a special emphasis on the issue of meeting the conditions from Talin. Deputy Minister Trišić-Babić informed him of the current status of the NATO integration process in BiH.
It is known that BiH, due to failure to meet the conditions from Talin is not able to activate the Membership Action Plan (MAP), but Trišić-Babić expressed hope that this issue will be met in the near future, and that leaders of the six parties will realize an agreement on the principles of resolving this issue, which was previously met.
The Deputy Minister said that the resolution of this issue is very important, as BiH received a very efficient mechanism of internal reforms in matters of defense, the economy, legal system and security, and is continuing positive dynamics in the region on issues of reform and stabilization.
BiH has shown that it can be a partner in providing security, which is evidenced by the active participation in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
Assistant Secretary General Bregelman said that NATO had a great deal of optimism about resolving this issue after the visit of the General Secretary of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen to BiH, and the promise of leaders that registration of immovable defense property would take place soon of the BiH Ministry of Defense.
NATO expressed support of BiH for its reform efforts, and supports its path to NATO accession as a part of the process of including the region in the security community.
In this sense, NATO sees a partner in BiH and encourages positive efforts to attain standards that are necessary for the continuation of the integration process.
