The President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik said today that in the era and culture of the referendum it is most likely that Serbian people will hold a referendum to determine its strategic position, and not only in terms of accession to NATO.
Dodik told the press that a referendum on NATO accession is obligation for politicians in the RS.
He emphasized that the Serbian people did not heal from the wounds of the NATO bombing and did not forget that NATO positioned itself against the Serbs in BiH and Kosovo.
“Whether BiH will access NATO will definitely decide people in the RS and through the referendum,” said Dodik, adding that those who say that such a referendum cannot be held are wrong.
He emphasized that without decision of RS, BiH cannot access to NATO, and that is exactly the question which is trying to be solved by the constitutional changes.
Dodik reminded that even in 2013 it was said that the issue of military property will be resolved in the context of total assets, and that it would be enough to go into the Membership Action Plan in NATO / MAP / or on the path to accession.
He added that NATO further polarized in recent years in the function of something that could have damage or expose the RS and Serbian people to certain problems.
“NATO is entering into a confrontation, primarily, with Russia, which is leading to pressure for us to choose one or the other side, and I think we should not take sides, especially not against Russia in this, hypothetically speaking, possible conflict,” said Dodik.
According to him, the meeting in Warsaw, which will be held in several days, will apparently serve to additional polarization of relations between the West and NATO – Russia.
