BiH is at a great crossroad, and in about 15 days we will know the path this country will take, whether it will be the path of progress or if it will remain stuck in the past, assessed the British Ambassador to BiH Nigel Casey. He noted that the European Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Fule would arrive on 11 April to speak with BiH politicians on meeting the conditions for EU.
“The law on state assistance was passed, the law on the census was adopted, but the census still has to be carried out and we hope that it would happen this October. We have always known that the third part of this puzzle means changing the Constitution in order to eliminate the unacceptable discrimination that the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg also noted. This would be the most difficult part. It does not surprise me that more time than we thought is needed for this in order to reach a decision on this issue. Now there is a clear view as to how to solve this issue, and this was not the case three months ago. Due to the progress made, now is the time to make the final step and to take political responsibility, and that is in the hands of the seven BiH politicians who were in Brussels last week in order to come to an agreement’’, said Ambassador Nigel Casey in an interview with Radio Slobodna Evropa.
