Following the decision of the House of Representatives and the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina at its last session, the revision of the Financial Plan of the Federal Institute for Health Insurance and Reinsurance for 2019 was made.
Last year, the budget of the Institute amounted to 158,806,000 BAM, and in 2019 it amounted to 207,327,893 BAM, was confirmed to Federal News Agency by Director of the Federation Health and Reinsurance Institute Vlatka Martinovic.
Martinovic explained that the funding increase is mostly focused on pediatric cardiac surgery, cardiology and cardiac surgery programs, for which more than 10 million BAM has been set aside to allow smooth operation of clinical centers and reduce waiting lists.
Moreover, because of the inability to treat the most complex heart defects in children in the Federation of BiH, most of the money is spent on their treatment internationally.
In addition, funds for the treatment of patients with Chron’s disease, ulcerative colitis, hepatitis B and C have also been increased, and the biggest increase is in medicines for the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
Martinovic notes that there is a clear increase in funds for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, wherein 2018, 1,800,000 BAM was allocated, and in 2019 7,000,000 BAM, which is an increase of 289 percent, according to Martinovic.
