Airports in the FBiH expect new airlines and 1.6 million passengers. Three airports in FBiH in 2016 will record an estimated 1.2 million passengers – a figure which they are hoping to exceed the next year with new investments, modernization and additional passenger lines.
“Traffic Strategy FBiH by 2030,” predicts that in the Sarajevo Airport will be invested 40 million EUR from 2017 to 2019, in the Airport Mostar 15 million in the same period, and 25 million in Tuzla Airport.
The International Airport Tuzla is planning to introduce a new airline in three cities in Germany, one in Slovakia and two in Sweden.
“One of the largest and most demanding projects include the reconstruction of the runway in the length of 2,600 meters, as well as other operating areas, taxiway and platform”, said from the management.
International Airport Tuzla this year will record up to 350,000 passengers, while the next is expected to increase to 550,000. Therefore, the recently launched projects involve the expansion and reconstruction of the existing terminal building, in order to accommodate more passengers.
Currently, this airport offers nine destinations, while recently were introduced flight to London and Billund in Denmark, and from the 17th of December, passengers are able to fly to Berlin.
Since March of 2017, the lines to Cologne, Nuremberg and Fridrishafen in Germany as well as Bratislava and Waksjo in Sweden will be open, while in June will be introduced a flight to Stockholm.
Airport in Mostar currently offers destinations in Italy, Rome, Bar, Naples.
“We are negotiating for some lines to Ancona and Milan. This year we had the same number of passengers from Beirut, and we signed a new contract for that line for 2017, part of Irish tourists also returned. For this region are required two safe lines that would work and would be feasible, such as Vienna and Istanbul, two large hub, where you can go via Vienna to Europe and via Istanbul to the east,” said Raspudic.
If everything goes according to plan, airports in the FBiH in 2017 should record up to 1.6 million passengers with a renewed capacity and more passenger lines.
