Ahmed Husagic was born in Sarajevo, and he completed his Political Studies at the University of Vienna. Husagic lived in B&H until he reached the age of 26; he spent the entire war in Sarajevo, and went to the capital city of Austria to study. Elections for the City Council of Vienna are to be held on October 11th, and Ahmed Husagic is in the election headquarters of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ).
Hsuagic said that he has always been interested in politics. He engaged in politics in Austria when he was the president of the students’ association.
“Prior to the elections held in 2010, people from SPÖ asked me to get in touch with the Bosnian associations. After those elections, the activity continued and intensified. As of February this year, I am also employed in SPÖ, where I am a Head of a part of election campaign”, Husagic reminded of the beginnings of his political path.
Husagic noted that he did not choose SPÖ accidentally. The policy of SPÖ advocates for the equality of people, equality of genders, social security of the people, and it dispels the fear of financial insecurity in old age, and those are all values which Ahmed considers correct, and for which he advocates as well.
“In the entire Europe, and in Vienna and Austria as well, there is a trend of right-wing strengthening, actually strengthening of those powers which advocate for the splitting of the society, which is unacceptable for us because hatred towards the foreigners is encouraged and spread, especially towards the people of Islamic religious affiliation”, said Husagic.
Husagic added that the advantage of Vienna is that this city has been a city under the leadership of SPÖ for a whole decade, and as such it still represents a city which is opened to all people regardless of their origin, ethnic or religious affiliation.
