A special guest at the opening was the EU Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Peter Sorensen who rewarded the winners of the art-competition EU in Art their prizes for their contributions to the exhibition.
He also addressed the citizens following the event, expressing thanks to all the participants in the competition. He underlined the importance of Europe Day as a day for marking that EU has achieved peace, prosperity and security for its 27 member states, but he also stressed the 9th of May as an occasion to look forward towards what the EU should become in the future. He said that the EU wants Bosnia to become ‘part of the club’ of the future EU, which is more than just a trade club, but also a club of values and that therefore Bosnia belongs to Europe.
After the opening ceremony Ambassador Peter Sorensen talked to the press, saying that Bosnia is one of the key priorities of the EU, that the EU has nowhere a bigger representation than in Bosnia and that now its up to the population of Bosnia to push the process of European integration forward.
