European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted progress report on BiH for 2016 with 45 votes for, 11 against and three abstentions.
The leaders of our country are called to overcome ethnic and political divisions and remain united in the process of evaluation of the application for membership in the EU and thus prove that BiH is a functional state.
The rapporteur Cristian Dan Preda stated that the European Parliament with this resolution welcomes the steps taken by BiH in the past period towards the European Union, and in particular the application for membership in the EU in February 2016.
“We are looking forward to the Commission’s opinion and we want to encourage BH authorities to seriously dedicate themselves to this process,” said Preda.
He also emphasized that our country needs to focus on reforms and avoid topics on the division that might slow down progress towards the EU.
It was noted that “BiH will not become a successful candidate for EU membership until the establishment of appropriate institutional conditions”.
“Professional, efficient and public administration that is based on merit is the backbone of the integration process of any country that aspires to EU,” as stated last night in Brussels.
The text condemned the attempts of the RS to establish parallel communication channels, adoption of a direct reporting from the Commission, and a referendum on the proclamation of the Day of the RS, which is a “serious violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the attack on the judiciary and the rule of law”.
The draft resolution now will be sent to the plenary session of the European Parliament, on which will be discussed and voted in February in Strasbourg.
